_the program
As the most visible and publicly interactive arm of the US government, the post office has a unique place in our culture. This design creates a place of convergence between the patrons and the employees with repeated and offset echoes of forms and spaces. A sacred wall that forms the boundary between public and private is transposed, "dragging" the counter, blurring the private/public threshold and creating a shared space in which employees and patrons can interact. The program also consists of event spaces and public galleries, both of which serve and engage the local community.
